Travel Marketing Strategy & Research

Most travel businesses spend on content, ads or SEO before they know what's actually worth targeting. That's how budget ends up on keywords with no booking intent, or content that duplicates what a competitor already owns.

LumaBeacon's strategy research maps the topics, keywords and competitive landscape first, so whatever you spend on execution next is spent on the right things.

Strategy research answers one question: what should we actually target?

Before a writer starts a destination guide, or an SEO plan gets scoped, or you decide whether your current agency is doing a good job, someone has to answer that question with evidence instead of a guess. That's what this service does. It's research, not execution, and it's meant to feed directly into the work you or another service does next.

The two research services

Each one can stand alone or feed into an SEO, content or GEO engagement.

Research Service

Topic & Keyword Research

What travelers in your niche actually search, ask and read, mapped to real keywords and grouped by how close each one sits to a booking decision, not just traffic volume.

  • A mapped list of topics your site should own but doesn't
  • Gaps against competitors and OTAs ranking for your traveler's questions
  • Booking-stage keywords separated from traffic-stage keywords
  • Local, destination-specific and AI/GEO query variants included

Deliverable: a prioritized topic and keyword map, grouped by traveler intent, ready to hand to a writer or your own team.

Research Service

Market & Competitor Research

Where you sit in the market you're actually competing in: demand and seasonality, pricing and positioning, and what the businesses beating you are doing differently.

  • Demand and seasonality trends for your destination or category
  • Where your pricing and positioning sit against the market
  • A side-by-side breakdown of your top 3-5 competitors
  • Gaps and weaknesses in their approach you can target

Deliverable: a market snapshot and competitor comparison document, plus the moves most likely to win share.

Two research services, not a catch-all "strategy" package

"Strategy" gets used as a label for almost anything in marketing. Ours is specific: topic and keyword research, and market and competitor research. Both are standalone deliverables you can act on yourself, hand to a writer, or bring back to us to execute.

Not sure this is what you need? A couple of things this isn't

Already have a marketing team or agency?

If you want an honest read on whether your current setup is working, that's our marketing consulting service, not this one.

Want your existing site reviewed?

A technical, content or performance review of a site you already have live is our website audit. This page is about what to target next, not what's currently broken.

How a strategy engagement runs

01

Start with an audit

Most engagements start with the free Travel Discovery Audit, so we agree on exactly which research fits before you spend on it.

02

We do the research

Topic and keyword mapping, or market and competitor research, using the same process we run for ongoing SEO and content clients.

03

You get a written deliverable

A prioritized document plus a call to walk through it in plain language, ranked by what to act on first.

04

You decide the next step

Hand it to a writer, run it yourself, or bring us in to execute through SEO or content. No obligation either way.

Who this is for

A good fit if

  • You're about to invest in content, SEO or ads and want evidence before you commit budget.
  • You're not sure which topics or keywords are actually worth targeting in your niche.
  • You want a clear read on your competitors before deciding how to position against them.
  • You want a standalone deliverable you can act on yourself or hand to a team.

Probably not a fit if

  • You want someone to review work already being done by your team or agency. See consulting.
  • You want your live website reviewed for technical, content or conversion issues. See website audit.
  • You want the research and the execution done as one ongoing engagement. See SEO or content.
  • Your business isn't related to travel or tourism.

Pricing is scoped to the research, not a fixed tier

A single-destination tour operator and a multi-market DMC need a different depth of topic mapping or competitor research. Rather than force every business into the same package, we scope each engagement after the discovery audit, based on your niche, market and what you're planning to do with the results.

Start with the free Travel Discovery Audit to see where you stand, then we'll put together a plan and a quote specific to your business.

Strategy & research questions

Do I have to book both research services, or can I pick one?

Pick one. Topic and keyword research and market and competitor research are each standalone deliverables. Most businesses start with whichever question is more urgent, then add the other later if it's useful.

Will you implement the recommendations too?

Not as part of this service. The deliverable is research you can hand to a writer, your own team, or bring back to us to execute through SEO, content or GEO. No obligation either way.

How is this different from consulting?

Consulting reviews work already being done, by your team or an existing agency, and gives an honest opinion on what's working. Strategy research starts from nothing you've committed to yet: it maps what to target before any of that work exists.

How long does a research project take?

It depends on scope and site size, but most topic and keyword or market and competitor projects take one to two weeks from kickoff to delivery, including the walkthrough call.

Do you only work with travel businesses?

Yes. Every research method here is built around how travelers actually search, compare and book, not a generic keyword or competitor process borrowed from another industry.
